Two things take us human beings above our mere animal condition. Love and Art : music, films, books, poetry, paintings, anything creative, beauty. Anything taking us beyond our physical condition. The re enchanting of the actual world is what will save us, not the money oriented usa model, completely obsolete, if the world is to change into a better place. No, we need to spend time, listening to beautiful music, looking more attentively to the sky, the sea, the trees, the smile of a child. We need to read books and watch images and films who make our soul tremble or sing. Lately at a dinner with friends, I met a woman who was talking about her trip to Asia. We discovered we had a common interest for K dramas and Korean films, Korea, Japan, art as a whole. The reason she gave me was that the k drama stories were portraying love in a way we could not see anymore in films in Europe, in spite of a fabulous cinema history. I had the same feeling. I am a film buff, I have studied and taught the history and aesthetics of cinema and write for cinema magazines. I go to watch movies from all over the world in cine clubs or art cinema venues. I am usually touched by epic movies or films about love and people, poetical films. One of my all time favorites, is the Jean Cocteau's black and white masterpiece La Belle et la Bête, the Audrey Hepburn romantic comedies, the silent Karl Dreyer movies, In the mood for love by the Chinese Wong kar Wai or Death in Venice by Luchino Visconti to name a few. They have one thing in common, they exude poetry, take us to another world, talk to all of us humans, and above all, they do what Art does, they give an interpretation of the world that goes beyond our daily hardship and elevate our soul. All this explains why I love Rowoon and his work. After discovering on Netflix the king's affection, I was literally enchanted, taken to another place and time. That drama is a masterpiece but beyond this, the main actor Kim Seok Woo alias Rowoon, is himself a world of his own. I am not talking about this fame or the fact he is in the spotlight or anything like this. Beyond of course his extraordinary physical beauty, and across all his roles and artistic activities, he walks into this world with his heart opened, his soul connected to the sky, the stars, yet in touch with other humans always.
He infuses poetry in all he does, and this is why he touches the heart and soul of people universally. The artist we love is the sensitive open hearted luminous, delicate, man whose heart is so earnest, whose soul is so sensitive, whose mind is so wise, so clear, so dignified.
He triggers in ourselves a renewed feeling of beauty, something very real, and yet luminous, a feeling making us cry and rejoice at the same time, nothing to do with celebrity at all, something to do with the sacred with epiphany, as if we were reading a beautiful text, or watching the slow movement of the wind in the trees, or contemplating a starry sky and feeling whole. This is why he is so precious and this is why we love him too. Cathieh
